Pheromones,
and the bar
built to carry them.
A note from the founder
I built the bar
I wished I'd had.
I wasn't a chemist. I wasn't a soapmaker. I was a guy in his forties, newly single, standing in the shower with a drugstore bar that stripped away everything my body was doing right.
Since then we've shipped literal tons of soap to more than 100,000 men. The formulas got better. The reason never changed: give a man his signal back, in the two minutes he already spends every morning.
How it happened
From a bad joke
to tons of soap.
Single again at forty-something.
Eight years married, then not. I found myself back in the dating scene after an eight-year absence, and I’ll admit it was daunting, everything about how men present themselves had moved on without me.
A friend told me to try pheromones.
He was a single guy, a serial dater, and he said it with a straight face. I thought he was kidding. He wasn’t.
So I tried them. What I noticed wasn’t magic, it was margin. Conversations started easier. People held eye contact a beat longer. I became a user, quietly, for years.
Lying in bed watching a movie about soap.
A few years in, I’m watching Fight Club, and they’re making soap on screen. It occurred to me: I’d like to make soap. And what better way to deliver pheromones than in a bar of it?
You use it first thing in the morning. You use it again before you go out on the town. The habit already existed, it just needed better cargo.
A soapmaker and a clinical psychologist.
I enlisted a woman who made soap by hand, and a clinical psychologist who was an expert in pheromones. He mixed a formula built around the character of Tyler Durden. She turned it into a bar.
I used it to great effect. Then a couple of friends wanted bars. Then they ran out and wanted more. That’s when I realized there was a business here.
Then the men’s gear giant called.
I got packaging. I got a website. It started to sell. Then the largest online retailer of men’s gear picked the product up, and we began moving soap by the ton, not a figure of speech.
Today there are three formulas: Durden, our flagship; Bond; and Maverick. Nine scents across them, plus cologne, deodorant and body butter carrying the same blends.
The moment it clicked
“What better way to deliver pheromones than in a bar of soap?”
You reach for it first thing in the morning. You reach for it again before you go out. No new habit, no bottle to remember, the delivery system was already sitting in the shower.
What we stand for
Four rules we
don't break.
Our compounds mirror what the human body produces naturally, so they work with your chemistry instead of impersonating it.
Every blend since the first Durden bar has been built by an expert in pheromones and human attraction, not a marketing brief.
We grew from a hand-poured kitchen operation, and we still pour in small batches. Scale never became an excuse.
Pheromones amplify your signal. They are not a love potion, and we will never sell them as one. 12,400+ reviews do the talking.
Where it stands today
Three formulas.
One idea.
Durden came first, built on the character that started it all. Bond and Maverick followed, because not every man is trying to send the same signal.
The originalThe formula that started the company, built around the character that inspired it. Still the heaviest blend in the lineup.
The composed oneBuilt for the rooms where you need credibility before charisma. Boardrooms, first impressions, long dinners.
Best sellerJet fuel for your social life, the profile for nights out, new rooms and people you haven’t met yet.
From a kitchen to pallets
We've shipped tons of soap. Literally.
A few bars for friends turned into a website, then into a listing with the largest online retailer of men's gear, then into pallets going out the door by weight. Still small batch. Still made in the USA.
in a home kitchen
literally, by weight
three formulas
in the shower
The part I still can't believe.
“I’ve been assured by several women that I smell great.”
Been using these for some time now, tried Bond, Maverick and Maverick 2 so far. Clean skin, great scent, noticeable difference.
